How to choose Steel?

For maximum project savings & long-term quality assurance, you have to check compliance with below government-mandated Institutions:

Impact on Cost Savings: 15-22%:

If you are using correctly-tested & proven TMT 500 Steel you can save 15% to 22 % steel by increasing the space between two steel rods in Concrete Slabs. Compared to Fe 415 steel brands.

This is proved scientifically that Quantity of Steel used, will be more if we are using Steel Made from low-grade scrap as the  Tensile Strength as per BIS will not be there. If the quality assured Steel is used, increase in Price will be adjusted when we are having overall-project savings in the consumption of Steel up to 18%, as per National Building Code.

TMT Fe500 means low sulphur & phosphurus. These are free from impurities. Further during manufacturing, the steel is purified using best of intermediary processes.

●        Sulphur And Phosphorus Are The Harmful Impurities That Make A Rebar Vulnerable To Cracking. Jindal TMT Bars 500 Reduces The Combined Level Of These Impurities Up To 0.075% As Per The Latest BIS Specifications.

●        Observe the rib pattern on TMT rebars, it is usually uniform and helps in strong bonding with cement but in secondary producers it’s not the case

Quality Test of Steel at Project Site:

Step 1) Take any Steel Bar of any diameter and bend it up 180 degree in reverse (a U-shape hence). The part of steel we are bending should have a minimum length 500 mm.

Step 2) Immediately after bending up to 180 degree, make the Steel bar Straight again .

Result: While doing this activity, steel of Good Quality will not break and Crack lines will not come on the surface of steel.

Following are critical parameters to judge any rebar:

-       Consistency of physical properties across the rebar length

-       Better ductility - computerized rolling mills, better to work with on site, easy to bend and cut

-       Lower impurities

-       Easy to work with (during fabrication) – bendability & elongation

-       Bond with concrete, how prominent the Ribs are on TMT.

Difference between Fe 500 & Fe 500D

●       D in Fe 500 TMT, stands for higher values of Ductility in Steel Bars. These premium-priced TMT are helpful for extreme conditions in temperature, or for large Bridge Projects or similar, which need severe Earthquake-proofing properties.

Truth behind Primary & Secondary Steel Manufacturers - Law by Govt of India in 2016:

Hence no manufacturer is Primary or Secondary.
Everyone is judged on the quality they manufacture.
